Our People Make the Difference

Proscenium served as Walmart's agency of record, producing over 10 shows for them in a single year. The biggest was Associates Week where, for two years in a row, we produced two concerts, a US Associates meeting, an International Associates meeting, and the Shareholders Meeting itself, one of the largest corporate events in the country. Fueled by a crew of over 300, we filled more than 55,000 seats with a potent mix of entertainment, song, and impactful executive messaging built around the theme "Our People Make The Difference."

A Shareholder Meeting with Heart

The first way Walmart Associates made a difference was by singing the opening number themselves. Surrounded by professional dancers, the winners of a worldwide talent search among Walmart's two million Associates "Got The Party Started," culminating in the reveal of host Reese Witherspoon. Reese could not have been more fun and likable, bringing out Associates, introducing musical acts including Brian McKnight, Ricky Martin, Mariah Carey, and Rod Stewart, performing a Walmart-ified version of her famous "bend and snap" from Legally Blonde, and even riding offstage in a pink Barbie jeep. A highlight was CEO Doug McMillon's "Our People Make The Difference" speech, backed by graphics of Marvel superheroes coming to life as Walmart Associates, drawn by actual Marvel artists.

A Set Designed for Surprise

The show played out on a set built for transformation. Our LED screens delivered stunning resolution for video and content, and our media servers let content move seamlessly from screen to screen. A 44-foot turntable, two mobilators, and multiple flying and tracking screens created distinct set looks throughout the show, presenting performers and content in unexpected ways. Each new look was as different as the Associates themselves.

Two Meetings, Same Day

The US Associates meeting opened with a video of Associates talking about how they make a difference, followed by the reveal of the new "Our People Make The Difference" nametag, designed by Proscenium and then worn by well over a million Associates. The meeting also featured an onstage "who can clean the fully realistic Walmart bathroom fastest" competition. At the exact same time, our second team produced the International meeting for Associates from 28 countries, with nine countries invited to create cultural presentations of song and dance, plus a breakdance troupe, a video game playoff, and magician Justin Flom performing illusions with executives.

Two Nights, Four Headliners

To round out the week, Proscenium produced two arena concerts. Rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd teamed with local heroes Backroads Anthem on one night, and Associates were treated to a double bill of Train and Lifehouse on the other. Associates Week is one of the most anticipated corporate events of the year, and this year we made sure it really made a difference.
